Over recent weeks it has come to our attention a number of affiliates have concerns regarding the availability of accommodation in Mudgee for this years Don Green Western Junior Championships (DGWJC) being player over the weekend of Saturday 16 and Sunday 17 November 2019.
The Hornets Tournament Crew have investigated these claims and initiated conversations with officials from Mudgee Touch Association, Mudgee Tourism and a number of regularly attending western affiliates. Confirmation was obtained there was no guarantee sufficient accommodation for the weekend in question would be available due to a conflicting event in the town over the same weekend. Patrons attending this event had already secured the vast majority of accommodation available in the greater Mudgee region.
To put this in perspective, any establishments with available accommodation would not have had sufficient rooms for the players and families from one team, let alone multiple clubs and multiple teams.
With the above in mind, Hornets have secured Orange Thunder Touch Football to be the host of the 2019 DGWJC.
To confirm, the updated tournament details are:
Saturday 16 and Sunday 17 November 2019 (unchanged)
Waratah Sports Club, 34 Telopea Way, Orange NSW 2800 (new venue) Home of Orange Thunder Touch Football
This is an unfortunate decision Hornets were saddened to make. Our preference being to hold the event in Mudgee. However, this decision was made in the best interests for the tournament to continue.
We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused due to the change but hope you will understand the reasoning behind this decision and the necessity to make it.
Any discussions and decisions about future DGWJC tournaments will happen in due course.
